I have been trying to finish some of my UFO's and have finally managed to put the binding on this little wholecloth quilt which was quilted some time ago.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UAgueL8nLHU/Vdl8QQqkkcI/AAAAAAAABIY/5NctwyOKxag/s1600/Opals%2B%25281%2529a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="580" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UAgueL8nLHU/Vdl8QQqkkcI/AAAAAAAABIY/5NctwyOKxag/s640/Opals%2B%25281%2529a.jpg" width="563" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Opals" is made from a pre-printed Bernatex Wholecloth Quilt Top which I purchased when I went to Houston in 2011. I found the pre-printed quilt top a great way to improve my accuracy in following quilting lines. The quilt measures about 38 inches square.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wanted to do something a little different rather than just quilt as is so I added cut-away shadow trapunto. I used a custom dyed fabric for the layer between the cut-away trapunto and the wadding - it was a very bold piece dyed for me by <a href="https://shesgotmojo.wordpress.com/fabric-dyeing/">She's Got Mojo</a>. I also added pebbling around the feathered motifs and in the border.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EpE2YmfcI0M/Vdl4-CBfhCI/AAAAAAAABH8/WYnh_476teQ/s1600/Opals%2Bon%2Bthe%2Bmachine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="435" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EpE2YmfcI0M/Vdl4-CBfhCI/AAAAAAAABH8/WYnh_476teQ/s640/Opals%2Bon%2Bthe%2Bmachine.jpg" width="580" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The end result has been fairly subtle - I might like to try this again with a slighly more transparent quilt top for a bolder effect. Nevertheless, I do quite like the subtle opal shading which it has created.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had the most incredibly exciting few days last week at the Sydney Quilt Show. Having received a phone call to say that my quilt Sanderson's Apprentice had been awarded a ribbon and that I "would want to be at the award ceremony", I flew up on Wednesday morning with my husband.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was thrilled when my quilt won a First Prize Ribbon in the Traditional Professional Category, even more excited when it won Excellence in Longarm Machine Quilting and completely amazed when it was also awarded Best of Show!
</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had only intended to spend one day at the Sydney Quilt Show. However, having been awarded Best of Show I flew back on Friday morning to spend a further two days with my quilt, talking to lots of very interested quilters - I had a great time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I would like to thank the committee of the <a href="http://quiltersguildnsw.com/">Quilters' Guild of NSW</a> for organising a fabulous quilt show, the judges for their time and what must be a difficult job, the volunteers for making the quilt show possible and all exhibitors who entered a quilt. I would also like to thank all the sponsors including <a href="http://expertiseevents.com.au/events/#loaded">Expertise Events</a> and <a href="http://www.bernina.com/en-AU/Home-Australia">Bernina </a>for their generous sponsorship.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My quilt has returned home with it's swag of pretty ribbons and a beautiful sash.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I will look forward to Sanderson's Apprentice being part of the Best of Australia competition at the <a href="http://www.aqc.com.au/Melbourne/#sthash.2wDD4jF5.dpbs">Australian Quilt Convention </a>in April 2016 and travelling around to the various state quilt shows during that year.<br />

I have recently had the pleasure of quilting a <a href="http://www.suespargo.com/index.php">Sue Spargo</a> quilt called In Full Bloom for my customer Penny. Penny completed this quilt as part of Sue Spargo's 2014 Block of the Month Quilt Programme.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Full Bloom is made with beautiful wool fabric and incorporates applique and lots of embroidery embellishments. I am sure you will agree it is a stunning quilt.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had lots of fun with the quilting, using a number of different background designs.</div>

While I may have been somewhat absent from my Blog lately, I have certainly been busy quilting. Today I would like to share a beautiful <i>Bright Birch Trees Quilt</i> pieced by Marg. <i>Bright Birch Trees</i> is a quilt pattern by <a href="http://crazymomquilts.bigcartel.com/product/bright-birch-trees-pdf-pattern">Crazy Mom Quilts</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt is made with a range of different coloured solids for the backgrounds which shows the quilting beautifully. I had a wonderful time quilting Marg's quilt with fern plumes, some feathers and lots of loops. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

I recently purchased <a href="http://www.johannabasford.com/">Johanna Basford's</a> book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Garden-Inky-Treasure-Coloring/dp/1780671067">Secret Garden</a>. Johanna is an illustrator who creates intricate, hand drawn illustrations predominantly, although not exclusively, in black and white.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ey9LEmHG6Ko/VNMu3lf84cI/AAAAAAAAA-M/nR7gfAK928s/s1600/Secret%2BGarden%2BBook.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ey9LEmHG6Ko/VNMu3lf84cI/AAAAAAAAA-M/nR7gfAK928s/s1600/Secret%2BGarden%2BBook.JPG" height="395" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Secret Garden is an interactive activity book which takes you on a ramble through a secret garden created in beautifully detailed pen-and-ink illustrations. The illustrations in this Inky Treasure Hunt and Colouring Book are just divine. I was drawn to this book for the potential of some of these images to be quilted.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With Johanna's permission, I enlarged one or her illustrations and spent some fun time playing on my new quilting machine. I was thrilled with the fine detail I was able to quilt in the piece. <i><b>My Secret Garden</b></i> measures about 24 inches in diameter and was quilted on <a href="http://www.oakshottfabrics.com/">Oakshott Cotton</a> fabric using <a href="http://wonderfilonline.com.au/">Wonderfil</a> Invisafil 100wt thread. The quilt was marked with the design and quilted freehand.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have recently had the pleasure of working together with my sister Rita from <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a> on a commission project for a raffle quilt. Rita chose the fabrics, layout and colours and pieced the quilt - I absolutely love her eye for colour - she chose a wonderful selection of Oakshott fabrics and I believe she has done an incredible job with this quilt. I was then given free reign to quilt as desired.</div>
<br />
The quilt was a delight to quilt - Rita's accuracy with her piecing is just incredible. I decided to quilt with a combination of feathers, loops and continuous curves.<br />

My new <a href="http://www.a1quiltingmachines.com/index.php">A1 quilting machine</a> arrived last week and I have spent some time getting used to the differences. I am happy to report that I am loving it. The first quilts have now been quilted and I would like to share the very first quilt I quilted on my new machine.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt is a beautiful baby quilt pieced from fabrics provided by my sister Rita from <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a>. Rita and I spent an afternoon together cutting, piecing and pressing this little quilt - we had a lovely time sewing together - something we don't do together very often. I am very lucky to be able to occasionally access her wonderful stash and her eye for colour and design.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The quilt was quilted with one of my favourite all-over patterns Splash which has given it great texture. The quilt has been made for my neighbours who have just had a baby boy - hopefully it will be well used and loved.</div>

I have recently quilted a beautiful sampler quilt for my customer Jenny. Jenny's quilt is named "Zutphen" after the location of <a href="http://www.petraprinspatchwork.com/">Petra Prins' Patchwork & Quilting Shop</a> in the Netherlands. Jenny was lucky enough to visit Petra's shop and purchased the pattern "Project Rood". Petra regards the pattern more a layout rather than a pattern with individual blocks coming from several now famous quilts including "Dear Jane", "Nearly Insane", "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler" and "The Civil War Diary Quilt". Jenny included nine additional blocks to make the quilt rectangular rather than square.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-txs1cDoUpvM/VEJP1CGVYMI/AAAAAAAAA54/F1VayWJpLEI/s1600/Zuthphen-whole2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-txs1cDoUpvM/VEJP1CGVYMI/AAAAAAAAA54/F1VayWJpLEI/s1600/Zuthphen-whole2.jpg" height="640" width="553" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Zuthpen has 50 blocks which are 6inches square each. As Jenny loves feathers I incorporated feathers wherever possible including a lovely feather in the sashing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Congratulations Jenny on completing a beautiful quilt and thank you for letting me quilt it - I had a wonderful time working on your quilt.</div>

In September 2014,<a href="http://www.patchwork-europe.com/?language=GB"> Carrefour Europeen du Patchwork / European Patchwork Meeting</a> celebrates its 20th anniversary in Alsace, France. Australia is the guest country of honour from outside of Europe.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Australia Quilts </i>is an invitational exhibition curated by Brenda Gael Smith to showcase the diversity of Australian quiltmaking. There are 34 featured artists and I was thrilled to have one of my quilts selected for this exhibition. <br />

My studio is fairly small - there is not a lot of storage space and not much wall space to display quilts. I had recently seen some great Quilt Ladders online and asked my very handy Dad to make me one. Dad is a retired tiler and very handy with carpentry, bricklaying and many other trades. Two weeks after my request, my quilt ladder is home and he has done a fabulous job.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9UyK1UJMafk/U_BPkum3tLI/AAAAAAAAA3k/U6T0-ZBB9uY/s1600/QuiltLadder%2B(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9UyK1UJMafk/U_BPkum3tLI/AAAAAAAAA3k/U6T0-ZBB9uY/s1600/QuiltLadder%2B(4).JPG" height="640" width="424" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With 10' ceilings, I was able to have a 9' ladder built - the ladder is about 20" wide and the rungs are spaced about 17" apart placed on an angle to accommodate the quilts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I spent this Sunday morning selecting a range of quilts and quilt tops to display - I managed to take a picture of the now tidy section of my room. It will be great to be able to easily change the quilts on display.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thanks Dad for a great job - I might see if I need any more quilt ladders for elsewhere in the house.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

I spent a wonderful day today at the<a href="http://www.craftfair.com.au/wp/Melbourne/"> Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair</a> with my sister, <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a> and our Mum. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We had a great time shopping at the many booths, chatting to many familiar faces and viewing the wonderful quilts on display as part of the<a href="http://www.victorianquilters.org/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=42"> 2014 Vic Quilters Showcase</a>.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The highlight of the day, however, was being awarded First Prize in the Longarm Category as well as the Matilda's Own Excellence in Longarm Quilting Award for my quilt Sanderson's Apprentice.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L0XDT6wEoUY/U6v0ig-kalI/AAAAAAAAA2U/0yVvVyV2MJ8/s1600/VicQuilters2014whole.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L0XDT6wEoUY/U6v0ig-kalI/AAAAAAAAA2U/0yVvVyV2MJ8/s1600/VicQuilters2014whole.jpg" height="393" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">Sanderson's Apprentice is a Sanderson Star quilt which was inspired by our visit last year to the Brisbane Exhibition - </span><a href="http://www.qagoma.qld.gov.au/exhibitions/past/2013/quilts_1700-1945" style="text-align: justify;">Quilts 1700 - 1945</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> which was an exhibition of quilts from the </span><a href="http://www.vam.ac.uk/" style="text-align: justify;">V&A Museum</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> in London. I was particularly struck by a </span><span style="text-align: justify;">stunning Sanderon Star Quilt by an unknown maker in yellow and cream fabrics with incredible hand quilting. Being a machine quilter, hand quilting a quilt like this was clearly out of the question. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;">The Sanderson Star design is named after its creator - Elizabeth Sanderson. Elizabeth was an apprentice to the quilt marker and draper George Gardiner of Allendale, and her iconic style and expert skills made her more famous then her tutor. Her reputation spread, and she set up her own business, taking live in apprentice to learn the trade. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;">My version of the Sanderson Star Quilt was made with </span><a href="http://www.oakshottfabrics.com/" style="text-align: justify;">Oakshot Cottons</a><span style="text-align: justify;">. The quilting motifs are based on traditional quilting designs but I have re-drafted them for machine quilting. The quilt incorporates shadow trapunto for all the quilting elements - a bright red layer of fabric has been placed between the quilt top and the wadding to create the pink and apricot glow.</span><br />

I would like to thank Vic Quilters for organising a wonderful quilt exhibition, the judges for what must have been some very difficult decisions and the volunteers for making the quilt show possible. Congratulations to all those who entered a quilt for what is a fantastic display. I would also like to thank all the sponsors for their continued support. I will be heading back to the Melbourne Quilt and Craft Fair on Saturday for another dose of quilts and shopping.</div>

The quilt was made for her grandchild's first birthday and she did an amazing job on the applique.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had lots of fun quilting this quilt - using lots of swirls, pebbles, feather fill and loops.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dzx_e1ZTQKk/U51IMSVrbZI/AAAAAAAAA1I/B6z-qSrFfGg/s1600/Circus-Time-Clown.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dzx_e1ZTQKk/U51IMSVrbZI/AAAAAAAAA1I/B6z-qSrFfGg/s1600/Circus-Time-Clown.jpg" height="640" width="550" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was great seeing each of the characters come to life with the added quilting details -</div>

I have found myself collecting vintage quilt tops with the intention of quilting them. I must have about eight quilt tops and to date had only quilted one of them. As a result, I decided that I really needed to get one quilted to justify adding further quilt tops to my collection.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I quilted the following gorgeous 1930's Le Moyne Star quilt which I purchased in Houston in 2011 for a mere $82USD. The quilt measures about 68 inches square. Here is a section of the quilt before quilting:-</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1DsRbwr9SHg/U4GuTGcFPFI/AAAAAAAAAyk/vKyqYZ34Ou0/s1600/Before-quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1DsRbwr9SHg/U4GuTGcFPFI/AAAAAAAAAyk/vKyqYZ34Ou0/s1600/Before-quilting.jpg" height="320" width="314" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I designed the quilting on my recently purchased Wacom Cintiq Tablet. I love that you can preview quilting designs onto images of the quilt. This was my quilting design - the final quilting only varies slightly from the original design.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qf-8DwxVK5I/U4GvDr9QnxI/AAAAAAAAAys/F9ZAQBEHi7A/s1600/Design.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qf-8DwxVK5I/U4GvDr9QnxI/AAAAAAAAAys/F9ZAQBEHi7A/s1600/Design.jpg" height="320" width="306" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was thrilled with the final result - I love the secondary design which has been created by the quilting lines.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

I have recently quilted a version of the following Ann Dagg's Quilt which was pieced and beautifully appliqued by my customer Ruth. Ruth used the pattern by Di Ford which is based on a quilt by Ann Dagg which is in the Smithsonian, Washington DC.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--HGctTDcZkM/U0P07dR9EaI/AAAAAAAAAxY/3cDo7hRSl3U/s1600/Anne-Daggs---whole-web.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--HGctTDcZkM/U0P07dR9EaI/AAAAAAAAAxY/3cDo7hRSl3U/s1600/Anne-Daggs---whole-web.jpg" height="396" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Ruth's quilt was quilted with feathers curling into the applique in the outer border. The remainder of the border was quilted with straight lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_ohHON_f-eE/U0P1lyiVOuI/AAAAAAAAAxg/qyz16qbbBh8/s1600/Anne-Daggs---border-webb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_ohHON_f-eE/U0P1lyiVOuI/AAAAAAAAAxg/qyz16qbbBh8/s1600/Anne-Daggs---border-webb.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: justify;">I love the central applique panel of this quilt - I don't (can't) applique myself but appreciate the endless hours this must have taken. I quilted the central panel with feathers around the outside, a few sprays of feathers amongst the applique and filled the background in with pebbles.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lehL2tqk9pg/U0P2f1kiWGI/AAAAAAAAAxs/9npwbbrMo2s/s1600/Anne-Daggs---centre-web.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lehL2tqk9pg/U0P2f1kiWGI/AAAAAAAAAxs/9npwbbrMo2s/s1600/Anne-Daggs---centre-web.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I hope you have enjoyed Ruth's version of this stunning Ann Dagg's Quilt - it was certainly a pleasure to quilt.</div>

It has been a long time since my last post - no excuses really - I think my summer holidays just got in the way. Having had a wonderful break, I am back to quilting now and have just finished an enormous Double Irish Chain quilt for my customer Chris. Chris gave me free reign on what to quilt and the setting areas of this quilt certainly allowed for some creative quilting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Inspired by the quilting of Judy Madsen from <a href="http://greenfairyquilts.com/pages/GreenFairyQuiltsBlog.php">Green Fairy Quilts</a> and her book "Quilting Wide Open Space", I came up with the following quilting designs. Each block has been quilted with a feathered motif while the blocks around the outside of the quilt have been cross-hatched and then quilted with double continuous curves.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jFyZv_GMx4Y/UwapTJm7SJI/AAAAAAAAAv0/vJv3EdzUrvY/s1600/Irish+Chain+section.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_349201="null" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jFyZv_GMx4Y/UwapTJm7SJI/AAAAAAAAAv0/vJv3EdzUrvY/s1600/Irish+Chain+section.jpg" height="332" hta="true" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The following photo of one of the blocks shows the detail of the quilting design - each feathered motif is surrounded by my favourite background fill - pebbles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IxPtZFi6KVY/UwaqISL4_JI/AAAAAAAAAv8/UHyZayZhgB0/s1600/Irish+Chain+Block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_349201="null" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IxPtZFi6KVY/UwaqISL4_JI/AAAAAAAAAv8/UHyZayZhgB0/s1600/Irish+Chain+Block.jpg" height="325" hta="true" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Due to the size of this quilt, I was unable to take a photo of the entire quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L0lQ2eQo3AE/UwawjPC-uhI/AAAAAAAAAwU/Tqvb9qNdrA0/s1600/Irish+Chain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_lm_349201="null" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L0lQ2eQo3AE/UwawjPC-uhI/AAAAAAAAAwU/Tqvb9qNdrA0/s1600/Irish+Chain.jpg" height="266" hta="true" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hope you have enjoyed Chris' quilt - I can't wait to see her reaction when she picks up her beautiful quilt.</div>

My customer Christabel has made the following Snowflake Medallion Quilt which I recently had the pleasure of quilting. <a href="https://www.emmajeanjansen.com.au/cart/index.php?id=1954">Snowflake Medallion</a> is a design by Emma and Pam Jansen which involves both piecing and applique - I am sure you will agree that Christabel has done a fabulous job.</div>
<div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I had lots of fun quilting this quilt and incorporated lots of feathers and loops.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3EuaGMcuAEU/UpMtCEwV6nI/AAAAAAAAAu8/T_ZEKzrAXkY/s1600/Snowflake-Medallion-borders.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3EuaGMcuAEU/UpMtCEwV6nI/AAAAAAAAAu8/T_ZEKzrAXkY/s400/Snowflake-Medallion-borders.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I do particularly love the centre of this quilt and have surrounded the centre applique design with a wreath of feathers and filled with my favourite background fill - pebbles.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And who doesn't love a back which is almost as beautiful as the front.</div>

I love Double Wedding Ring Quilts and am always impressed by anyone able to piece this design. While I have quilted some DWR Quilts, I have not pieced one myself. The following beautiful Double Wedding Ring Quilt was hand pieced by my customer Fiona. Fiona has created a stunning scrappy DWR Quilt with plain white spaces for the quilting design to shine.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dx_0lF3SXwg/Un3FY2rvzmI/AAAAAAAAAuE/KPtKyR7PYJg/s1600/DWR---whole.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dx_0lF3SXwg/Un3FY2rvzmI/AAAAAAAAAuE/KPtKyR7PYJg/s400/DWR---whole.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My initial idea was to quilt feathers in the white spaces, however, Fiona had a much simpler vision for her quilt. While designing the quilting motif took me out of my comfort zone, I was really please with result.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1N5opET4utM/Un3HKuYszxI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/lzCK7CXxFqg/s1600/DWR-block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="383" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1N5opET4utM/Un3HKuYszxI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/lzCK7CXxFqg/s400/DWR-block.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The design was quilted with the aid of rulers but did not require much marking - I placed dots on various points of the diagonals and used a small circle and one curved ruler to quilt the design.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jC7BhoKAFy8/Un3Hvwkgd_I/AAAAAAAAAuY/Md2Q2Lln9XA/s1600/DWR-detail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jC7BhoKAFy8/Un3Hvwkgd_I/AAAAAAAAAuY/Md2Q2Lln9XA/s400/DWR-detail.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5mHs7YvJknU/Un3IAOChT7I/AAAAAAAAAug/uTOOun-OgE8/s1600/DWR-block2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5mHs7YvJknU/Un3IAOChT7I/AAAAAAAAAug/uTOOun-OgE8/s400/DWR-block2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Fiona has collected her quilt and was very pleased with the finished quilt - her challenge now will be to bind the curved edges of the DWR Quilt.</div>

I am once again participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival organised by Amy of <span style="color: #2288bb;"><a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2013/10/25/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2013/">Amy's Creative Side</a></span> from October 25 to November 8, 2013. The Blogger's Quilt Festival is an online quilt festival where bloggers from around the world showcase a quilt. Once you have had a look here, head on over and take some time viewing the other wonderful quilts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This time, I am sharing a quilt made by my customer Sally. Sally has tackled curved piecing for the first quilt she has ever made with wonderful results. I love Sally's selection of oranges, blues and greens.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sally's quilt has been quilted with a simple figure 8 loop for a modern looking quilt.</div>

I was thrilled to find out late last week that <a href="http://quiltsonbastings.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/vic-quilters-showcase-2013-double-cream.html">Double Cream</a> has won an international ribbon. I had entered Double Cream in the Wholecloth Large Category at <a href="http://www.mqxshow.com/MQX/West/Home/index.cfm">MQX West in Portland</a> and was very excited to find that it had won First Place in that category. It was an honour to have my quilt exhibited amongst such incredible quilters but even more so for my quilt to be awarded a ribbon.<br />

I wish I had been able to be there but thanks to Jackie Kunkel of <a href="http://www.cvquiltworks.blogspot.com.au/">Canton Village Quilt Works</a> who took some photos for me, I was able to feel a part of it. I can't wait to see the photos of the other quilts in the exhibition.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I would like to thank the organisers Janet-Lee Greer Santeusanio and Mary Schilke for organising a fabulous quilt show as well as the sponsors, in particular Superior Threads who were the sponsors for the Wholecloth Large Category.</div>

I had a wonderful time visiting <a href="http://quiltsinthebarnaus.blogspot.com.au/">Quilts in the Barn 2013</a> on Friday. It was a glorious Spring day, a wonderful setting, a chance to catch up with quilting friends and a fabulous display of quilts.<br />

This year's exhibition was "All About Chintz" and there were certainly some wonderful examples of Chintz quilts. I loved the two quilts which greeted you from above as you walked into the barn.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The following stunning quilt caught my eye - it has a beautiful chintz centre surrounded by a plain border. The quilting on this quilt is simply amazing. Unfortunately I don't know whose incredible work this is.</div>

This year's exhibition is "All About Chintz" and I have just finished quilting a beautiful Chintz Quilt for Linda. Linda's quilt features many beautiful chintz printed fabrics from <a href="http://www.dutchquilts.net/">Den Haan en Wagenmakers</a>. The solid red fabric is also a chintz.</div>

Linda's quilt has been quilted with feathers on the red chintz - I do love a plain fabric with feathers. Simple continuous curves have been quilted on the printed chintzes.</div>

I would like to share a beautiful Double Irish Chain quilt I recently finished quilting for my customer Ann. Ann's quilt was made with 1 inch squares and was quite large. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a photo of the whole quilt but here is a section of Ann's quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-suUs6QMm1go/Uhiea9DBZEI/AAAAAAAAAp8/s0aKKnVoCOA/s1600/Irish+Chain+-+section.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-suUs6QMm1go/Uhiea9DBZEI/AAAAAAAAAp8/s0aKKnVoCOA/s400/Irish+Chain+-+section.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All of the light coloured 1 inch squares were quilted with continuous curves while the centres of each Irish Chain were quilted with a separate motif. Yes, I did count the centres - there were 120 - lots of stops and starts but worth the effort.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Enjoy your quilt Ann - thank you for letting me quilt it for you.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Linda entered her quilt in the Vic Quilters Showcase recently and was as excited as I was to have won a first prize ribbon in the Traditional Two Person Professional Category. It is the first time one of my customer's quilts has won a ribbon - it was lovely to see it displayed with its two ribbons.</div>

Congratulations Linda and thank you for sharing the moment!</div>

I spent a wonderful and exhausting day today at the Melbourne Quilt and Craft Fair looking at incredible quilts, shopping and catching up with family and friends. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am thrilled to say that it was also another ribbon winning day. My quilt <em>Double Cream</em> not only won a First Prize Ribbon in the Longarm Category, it also won the Longarm Machine Quilting Award as well as Runner Up Best of Show!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pi-iILMMo_8/Ue966PBNKcI/AAAAAAAAAns/cCgMmhudm_Y/s1600/Double-Cream-Whole-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pi-iILMMo_8/Ue966PBNKcI/AAAAAAAAAns/cCgMmhudm_Y/s640/Double-Cream-Whole-1.jpg" width="553" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<em>Double Cream</em> is my second Shadow Trapunto Quilt. This time, rather than using a batiste, I have used a cotton sateen as the top layer. The quilt has cut-away trapunto and has been layered with a bright yellow fabric to give the off-white on cream effect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tjtpwfci2Zg/Ue97gSsBvQI/AAAAAAAAAn0/WDV0ewY6hLQ/s1600/Double-Cream-Centre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tjtpwfci2Zg/Ue97gSsBvQI/AAAAAAAAAn0/WDV0ewY6hLQ/s640/Double-Cream-Centre.jpg" width="508" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The central feather vase is my own design and is surrounded by my favourite fill - pebbles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JdpEPALIORo/Ue9-XjM1PYI/AAAAAAAAAoc/69VLZAfpMR8/s1600/Double-Cream---Centre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JdpEPALIORo/Ue9-XjM1PYI/AAAAAAAAAoc/69VLZAfpMR8/s640/Double-Cream---Centre.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The border is a traditional inter-woven feather with each corner set with a feathered heart. Rather than cross-hatching the back-ground, I have used a continuous curve design as a filler again blending into pebbles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hcGgUql4m9I/Ue9_6_gZLBI/AAAAAAAAAos/QDchgtbt2ZU/s1600/Double-Cream-Corner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hcGgUql4m9I/Ue9_6_gZLBI/AAAAAAAAAos/QDchgtbt2ZU/s400/Double-Cream-Corner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is <em>Double Cream</em> with its ribbons and the proud owner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zPrX_f0ifW8/UfEBuXuCwUI/AAAAAAAAAo8/h8Kh5bE_ONQ/s1600/VicQuilters2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="378" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zPrX_f0ifW8/UfEBuXuCwUI/AAAAAAAAAo8/h8Kh5bE_ONQ/s400/VicQuilters2013.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I would like to thank Vic Quilters for organising a wonderful quilt exhibition, the judges for what must have been some incredibly difficult decisions and the volunteers for making the quilt show possible. I would also like to thank all the sponsors for their continued support. I will be heading back to the Melbourne Quilt and Craft Fair tomorrow for another dose of quilts.</div>
