In Full Bloom

I have recently had the pleasure of quilting a Sue Spargo quilt called In Full Bloom for my customer Penny.  Penny completed this quilt as part of Sue Spargo's 2014 Block of the Month Quilt Programme.

In Full Bloom is made with beautiful wool fabric and incorporates applique and lots of embroidery embellishments.  I am sure you will agree it is a stunning quilt.

I had lots of fun with the quilting, using a number of different background designs.

I did particularly like the feathered border -

Birch Trees Quilt

While I may have been somewhat absent from my Blog lately, I have certainly been busy quilting. Today I would like to share a beautiful Bright Birch Trees Quilt pieced by Marg.  Bright Birch Trees is a quilt pattern by Crazy Mom Quilts.

The quilt is made with a range of different coloured solids for the backgrounds which shows the quilting beautifully.  I had a wonderful time quilting Marg's quilt with fern plumes, some feathers and lots of loops.

Zutphen - A Sampler Quilt

I have recently quilted a beautiful sampler quilt for my customer Jenny.  Jenny's quilt is named "Zutphen" after the location of Petra Prins' Patchwork & Quilting Shop in the Netherlands.  Jenny was lucky enough to visit Petra's shop and purchased the pattern "Project Rood".  Petra regards the pattern more a layout rather than a pattern with individual blocks coming from several now famous quilts including "Dear Jane", "Nearly Insane", "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler" and "The Civil War Diary Quilt".  Jenny included nine additional blocks to make the quilt rectangular rather than square.

Zuthpen has 50 blocks which are 6inches square each.  As Jenny loves feathers I incorporated feathers wherever possible including a lovely feather in the sashing.

Toy Time Circus - A Baby Applique Quilt

I have recently quilted this Toy Time Circus Quilt for my customer Mrs Hope.  The quilt was made for her grandchild's first birthday and she did an amazing job on the applique.

I had lots of fun quilting this quilt - using lots of swirls, pebbles, feather fill and loops.

It was great seeing each of the characters come to life with the added quilting details -

I think the Lion is my favourite!

Ann Dagg's Quilt

I have recently quilted a version of the following Ann Dagg's Quilt which was pieced and beautifully appliqued by my customer Ruth.  Ruth used the pattern by Di Ford which is based on a quilt by Ann Dagg which is in the Smithsonian, Washington DC.

Ruth's quilt was quilted with feathers curling into the applique in the outer border.  The remainder of the border was quilted with straight lines.

I love the central applique panel of this quilt - I don't (can't) applique myself but appreciate the endless hours this must have taken.  I quilted the central panel with feathers around the outside, a few sprays of feathers amongst the applique and filled the background in with pebbles.

I hope you have enjoyed Ruth's version of this stunning Ann Dagg's Quilt - it was certainly a pleasure to quilt.

Double Irish Chain Quilt

It has been a long time since my last post - no excuses really - I think my summer holidays just got in the way.  Having had a wonderful break, I am back to quilting now and have just finished an enormous Double Irish Chain quilt for my customer Chris.  Chris gave me free reign on what to quilt and the setting areas of this quilt certainly allowed for some creative quilting.

Inspired by the quilting of Judy Madsen from Green Fairy Quilts and her book "Quilting Wide Open Space", I came up with the following quilting designs.  Each block has been quilted with a feathered motif while the blocks around the outside of the quilt have been cross-hatched and then quilted with double continuous curves.

The following photo of one of the blocks shows the detail of the quilting design - each feathered motif is surrounded by my favourite background fill - pebbles.

Due to the size of this quilt, I was unable to take a photo of the entire quilt.

Double Wedding Ring Quilt

I love Double Wedding Ring Quilts and am always impressed by anyone able to piece this design. While I have quilted some DWR Quilts, I have not pieced one myself.  The following beautiful Double Wedding Ring Quilt was hand pieced by my customer Fiona.  Fiona has created a stunning scrappy DWR Quilt with plain white spaces for the quilting design to shine.

My initial idea was to quilt feathers in the white spaces, however, Fiona had a much simpler vision for her quilt.  While designing the quilting motif took me out of my comfort zone, I was really please with result.

The design was quilted with the aid of rulers but did not require much marking - I placed dots on various points of the diagonals and used a small circle and one curved ruler to quilt the design.

Fiona has collected her quilt and was very pleased with the finished quilt - her challenge now will be to bind the curved edges of the DWR Quilt.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Circles Quilt

This time, I am sharing a quilt made by my customer Sally.  Sally has tackled curved piecing for the first quilt she has ever made with wonderful results.  I love Sally's selection of oranges, blues and greens.

 

 

Sally's quilt has been quilted with a simple figure 8 loop for a modern looking quilt.

All About Chintz

Quilts in the Barn 2013, organised by Linda of Quilts in the Barn is on again next week - the exhibition is being held from Friday 27th September through to Sunday 29th September, 2013. The exhibition is a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

 

 

This year's exhibition is "All About Chintz" and I have just finished quilting a beautiful Chintz Quilt for Linda.  Linda's quilt features many beautiful chintz printed fabrics from Den Haan en Wagenmakers.  The solid red fabric is also a chintz.

 



 

Linda's quilt has been quilted with feathers on the red chintz - I do love a plain fabric with feathers.  Simple continuous curves have been quilted on the printed chintzes.

I am certainly looking forward to this year's Quilts in the Barn Exhibition - best wishes Linda for what I am sure will be another wonderful exhibition.

 

Irish Double Chain Quilt

I would like to share a beautiful Double Irish Chain quilt I recently finished quilting for my customer Ann.  Ann's quilt was made with 1 inch squares and was quite large.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a photo of the whole quilt but here is a section of Ann's quilt.

All of the light coloured 1 inch squares were quilted with continuous curves while the centres of each Irish Chain were quilted with a separate motif.  Yes, I did count the centres - there were 120 - lots of stops and starts but worth the effort.

Diamond Sawtooth Quilt

You may remember the beautiful Diamond Sawtooth Quilt which I quilted for Linda from Quilts in the Barn last year which I blogged at the time here.

Linda entered her quilt in the Vic Quilters Showcase recently and was as excited as I was to have won a first prize ribbon in the Traditional Two Person Professional Category.  It is the first time one of my customer's quilts has won a ribbon - it was lovely to see it displayed with its two ribbons.

Denise Schmidt Churn Dash Quilt

Linda from Quilts in the Barn has recently made a beautiful Churn Dash Quilt set on point made from some of my favourite Denise Schmidt fabrics.

 

In the style of Denise Schmidt quilts, Linda's quilt has been quilted with an all-over figure 8 design - I do love the simplicity of this quilting design on modern quilts.

 

 

Single Girl with Daisies

It seems like a long time ago that I blogged my very first post which was a Single Girl Quilt.  I have once again quilted a Single Girl quilt, this time for my customer Lonnie.  The Single Girl quilt is a very popular design by Denise Schmidt.   Lonnie has made a gorgeous version of this quilt in a range of pinks with splashes of yellow on a solid background for her 10 year old niece.  This is Lonnie's first quilt which has been pieced on her over-locker!  She has done a fabulous job.

 

 

Lonnie's quilt has been quilted with  one of my favourite all-over designs - Daisies Galore.  The daisies have been quilted in a pink variegated thread and they certainly stand out on the plain background fabric.

 

 

 

 I hope your niece enjoys her new quilt Lonnie and that it is treasured for years to come.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - A Walk In The Woods Quilt

This time, I am sharing a little baby quilt made by my customer Catherine. Catherine's quilt is a bright baby quilt made mainly from Aneela Hoey's range of A Walk In The Woods fabrics.

 

 

Catherine's quilt measures 38 x 42 inches and is going to be perfect for a friend's yet to be born baby girl.   I am sure it is going to be a much treasured quilt.  I have quilted it with one of my favourite designs - Daisies Galore - I do love the way the daisies stand out amongst the cute prints.

"By My Hand" Quilt

"By My Hand" is a little quilt made by my customer Angela from the pattern by Brenda Riddle of Acorn Quilt & Gift Company.  Angela did a wonderful job with the piecing, applique and embroidery.

 

 

The quilting chosen was similar to the original quilt - I particularly love the feathers quilted around the letters.

 

 

This was a fun little quilt to work on - I hope Angela is as pleased with the results as I am.
