Blogger's Quilt Festival - Circles Quilt

I am once again participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival organised by Amy of Amy's Creative Side from October 25 to November 8, 2013. The Blogger's Quilt Festival is an online quilt festival where bloggers from around the world showcase a quilt. Once you have had a look here, head on over and take some time viewing the other wonderful quilts.

 

This time, I am sharing a quilt made by my customer Sally.  Sally has tackled curved piecing for the first quilt she has ever made with wonderful results.  I love Sally's selection of oranges, blues and greens.

 

 

Sally's quilt has been quilted with a simple figure 8 loop for a modern looking quilt.

MQX Quilt Festival Ribbon

I was thrilled to find out late last week that Double Cream has won an international ribbon.  I had entered Double Cream in the Wholecloth Large Category at MQX West in Portland and was very excited to find that it had won First Place in that category.  It was an honour to have my quilt exhibited amongst such incredible quilters but even more so for my quilt to be awarded a ribbon.

I wish I had been able to be there but thanks to Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works who took some photos for me, I was able to feel a part of it.  I can't wait to see the photos of the other quilts in the exhibition.

 

I would like to thank the organisers Janet-Lee Greer Santeusanio and Mary Schilke for organising a fabulous quilt show as well as the sponsors, in particular Superior Threads who were the sponsors for the Wholecloth Large Category.

Quilts in the Barn 2013

I had a wonderful time visiting Quilts in the Barn 2013 on Friday.  It was a glorious Spring day, a wonderful setting, a chance to catch up with quilting friends and a fabulous display of quilts.

This year's exhibition was "All About Chintz" and there were certainly some wonderful examples of Chintz quilts.  I loved the two quilts which greeted you from above as you walked into the barn.

  

 



The following stunning quilt caught my eye - it has a beautiful chintz  centre surrounded by a plain border.  The quilting on this quilt is simply amazing.  Unfortunately I don't know whose incredible work this is.

I spotted the quilt I only finished quilting last week surrounded by beautiful reproduction fabrics for sale.

 

Mary Koval from Mary Koval Antique Quilts was this year's guest at Quilts in the Barn.  Mary is an American quilter who has emerged as a leading expert in the field of American quilts and antique fabrics.  Mary had brought with her a collection of vintage quilt tops, fabrics and quilt blocks for sale.  The following is a quilt top which came home with me - it will be treasured and hopefully quilted.  Does anyone know what this quilt block is called?

 

 

Thank you Linda for a wonderful exhibition.  I am sure it will have been a great success and you will have raised much needed funds for Breast Cancer Research.  I will look forward to Quilts in the Barn 2014!

 

  

All About Chintz

Quilts in the Barn 2013, organised by Linda of Quilts in the Barn is on again next week - the exhibition is being held from Friday 27th September through to Sunday 29th September, 2013. The exhibition is a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

 

 

This year's exhibition is "All About Chintz" and I have just finished quilting a beautiful Chintz Quilt for Linda.  Linda's quilt features many beautiful chintz printed fabrics from Den Haan en Wagenmakers.  The solid red fabric is also a chintz.

 



 

Linda's quilt has been quilted with feathers on the red chintz - I do love a plain fabric with feathers.  Simple continuous curves have been quilted on the printed chintzes.

I am certainly looking forward to this year's Quilts in the Barn Exhibition - best wishes Linda for what I am sure will be another wonderful exhibition.

 

Irish Double Chain Quilt

I would like to share a beautiful Double Irish Chain quilt I recently finished quilting for my customer Ann.  Ann's quilt was made with 1 inch squares and was quite large.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a photo of the whole quilt but here is a section of Ann's quilt.

All of the light coloured 1 inch squares were quilted with continuous curves while the centres of each Irish Chain were quilted with a separate motif.  Yes, I did count the centres - there were 120 - lots of stops and starts but worth the effort.

Diamond Sawtooth Quilt

You may remember the beautiful Diamond Sawtooth Quilt which I quilted for Linda from Quilts in the Barn last year which I blogged at the time here.

Linda entered her quilt in the Vic Quilters Showcase recently and was as excited as I was to have won a first prize ribbon in the Traditional Two Person Professional Category.  It is the first time one of my customer's quilts has won a ribbon - it was lovely to see it displayed with its two ribbons.

Vic Quilters Showcase 2013 - Double Cream with Ribbons

I spent a wonderful and exhausting day today at the Melbourne Quilt and Craft Fair looking at incredible quilts, shopping and catching up with family and friends. 

 

I am thrilled to say that it was also another ribbon winning day.  My quilt Double Cream not only won a First Prize Ribbon in the Longarm Category, it also won the Longarm Machine Quilting Award as well as Runner Up Best of Show!

 

 

Double Cream is my second Shadow Trapunto Quilt.  This time, rather than using a batiste, I have used a cotton sateen as the top layer.  The quilt has cut-away trapunto and has been layered with a bright yellow fabric to give the off-white on cream effect.

 

 

The central feather vase is my own design and is surrounded by my favourite fill - pebbles.

 

The border is a traditional inter-woven feather with each corner set with a feathered heart.  Rather than cross-hatching the back-ground, I have used a continuous curve design as a filler again blending into pebbles.
